Azian Binti Shaharum
Founder & Partner

Azian Binti Shaharum

Background

Admitted to the Bar since 1997. Her vision is to make Azian & Co. one of the most formidable legal firms, delivering professional and effective legal services to society at large.

Education

Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (Hons), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Second Class Upper Honours, 1994.

LLM Master’s Degree, specialising in Corporate Insolvency and Procurement (Business Law), University of Wales, Aberystwyth, United Kingdom, 1995.

Experience

Chambered at Messrs Kumar Tashin & Co. She later established her own practice under Messrs Azian Saibullah & Co, now known as Messrs Azian & Co.

Expertise

Civil and commercial disputes, shareholder disputes, banking matters, conveyancing and other legal matters.

Ekbal Singh Sandhu
Partner

Ekbal Singh Sandhu

Background

Joined Messrs Azian & Co in 2010 as a Partner. He was admitted to the Bar in 2000 and carries the vision of bringing the firm forward as a leading dispute resolution solution provider.

Education

Graduated from Bond University, Australia.

Experience

His practice is mainly in general civil litigation, beginning from his chambering days with Messrs Othman Hashim & Co and Messrs H.S. Dillon & Co.

He later served as a Legal Assistant at Messrs Zainal Ithnin & Partners. To date, he has personally conducted more than 300 personal injury cases and various general civil litigation matters.

Mutharasu Krishnan
CEO / Advocate & Solicitor

Mutharasu Krishnan

Background

Mr. Mutharasu Krishnan serves as the CEO of Messrs Azian & Co and is also an Advocate & Solicitor. His dual role strengthens the firm’s capabilities through both legal knowledge and proven leadership experience.

Education

Holds double degrees in law: LL.B (Hons) from Staffordshire University, United Kingdom, and LL.B Second Class Upper with Honours from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

Currently pursuing a Master’s in Law (LL.M) with specialisation in Business Law.

Professional Development

Attended specialised courses organised by the Malaysian Bar Council including Islamic Banking Law, Criminal Trial Advocacy, Civil Cross-Examination Advocacy and other legal training programmes.

Experience

Instrumental in shaping the firm’s strategic direction, building strong client relationships and leading the firm’s research team.

His leadership has contributed to the firm’s handling of complex legal matters for financial institutions, developers and corporate entities.

Dr Hj Mohamad Ismail
Legal Advisor / Head of Criminal Litigation

Dr. Hj. Mohamad Ismail Bin Hj. Mohamad Yunus

Background

Admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 2012. He currently serves as Legal Advisor and Head of the Criminal Litigation Department at Messrs Azian & Co.

Education

Diploma in Public Administration from UiTM.

LL.B (Hons) and Master’s in Comparative Laws from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

Ph.D. in Law from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

Academic Experience

Prior to joining the firm, he had a distinguished academic career at Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL), IIUM, where he lectured from 1992 onwards.

He served as Director of Students Development, Deputy Dean and Head of the Department of Public Law at AIKOL, IIUM.

Professional Roles

Member of the Investigating Tribunal under the Advocate and Solicitors Disciplinary Board, Bar Council Malaysia.

Also served as Principal of a residential college at IIUM since 2001.

Publications & Awards

A prolific author with numerous books and articles on criminal law, evidence and the criminal justice system.

Received publication recognitions including the Ismail al-Faruqi Publications Award by IIUM, National Best Criminal Book Award and Book Publication Award by IIUM.
